State Championship Track and Field Meet Highlights

Chamber forms nominating panel to pick mayor and director candidates

The Chamber of Commerce meeting at Frye's focused on including ranchers and agriculture. Thirty five attendees selected a nominating committee chaired by Harold McLauchlin to propose candidates for mayor and chamber directors, with June 23 as the next meeting date. The group plans regular noon meetings on the third Thursday at Frye's and urged ranchers to join.

Bridal Fashion Show Highlights 100 Years of Gowns

Big Timber Woman's Club presents a Saturday bridal fashion show at Lutheran Parish Hall featuring 100 years of authentic gowns. Oldest dress from 1875 will be worn by Mimi Cremer. Kelly Duffey Brewer debuts her own 1975 wedding dress. Proceeds fund local projects and a children’s musical. tickets are $3.00 at Robbins and Gust.

China show raises funds for Billings Cancer Center

Sweet Grass County and the Ruth Kvenild Chapter of the Montana Porcelain Artists Ass'n of Billings hosted a hand painted china display plus a pie and coffee sale at Hospitality House. Proceeds totaled 1011.30 for the Regional Cancer Treatment Center with donations from T Bone Cow Belles Miriam Michels and others supporting china sales, memorials, and hospitality services.

Photo prize winners crowned in Pioneer Photo Contest

Marc Childress and Lesa Nitey win Grand Prizes in adult and youth divisions respectively. Second place went to Richard Nichols and Dan Nygaard, with honors to Dane Moor, Marc Childress, and Terry Terland. Judge Dick Melves lauds the entries, with prints to be reproduced in The Pioneer and winners notified for pickup. A second annual contest is planned for next spring.

Homestead Tax Relief Forms Available at County Office

Applications for the State Funded Homestead Tax Relief Act are now available at the SG County Assessor's office. Owners who live in their dwelling may apply, including in multi unit buildings, with relief based on the occupied unit. apply by 5 p.m. June 30 1977.

Drought loan deadline set for 1977 programs

The Farmers Home Administration sets September 30 1977 as the deadline to apply for drought emergency loans and grants to aid farms and water systems. County official Richard Parker cites a federal committee designating Gallatin and Sweet Grass counties in Montana for eligibility. Emergency loans cover drought losses and credit needs, with funds for wells and other water system projects, and a November 30 1977 deadline for completing projects.

Memorial Day ceremony honors fallen service members

Memorial Day observances drew hundreds as John Ronneberg led an address honoring those who sacrificed for the nation. Speakers recalled wartime hardships and the enduring meaning of service while veterans and local groups attended the cemetery ceremony and the river bridge service.
