Fraser Attends Meet on Farm Policy at Conrad

Sid Fraser represented the Cattlemen's Assn at meetings in Great Falls and Conrad with the assistant secretary of agriculture. He urged support for Montana Senate Resolution 15 seeking a US attorney general led investigation into retail marketing practices. Fraser cited cattle price rises and beef retail inflation as grounds for inquiry. Walt Huffman and O M Mabry from the ASCS attended the Conrad session.

Wool Pool Sold by Sweet Grass Wool Market ing Assn

The Sweet Grass Wool Marketing Association sold a wool pool of about 250000 pounds to TOPS Corp of Boston. Buyer was Bob Jones of Billings. Price was 48.66 cents per pound, not as high as last year. Members loaded five cars with more to come. remaining wool to be shipped later.

Early Entries Access for 12th Big Timber Rodeo

Rodeo greats are lining up for the 12th annual Big Timber Rodeo with Montana star Shawn Davis leading as top bronc rider. Davis, 26, 1965 champ with a $25,509 haul, tops the 1967 bronc standings with over $10,000. Over 100 entries expected. purses and fees likely surpass 1967's $3,605.

Bloodmobile drawing falls short of quota in Big Timber

Thirty six pints were drawn at the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit to the Legion hall in Big Timber on Thursday with forty one donors registered and five rejected. The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors the event and provided lunch as donors and volunteers from the Legion Auxiliary staff the operation.

Queen Candidates to Be Judged at Fairgrounds Rodeo

Seven girls entered in the rodeo queen contest to be judged on horsemanship and personality Thursday June 8 at 7 pm at the fairgrounds. Tea honoring the candidates will be hosted by Mrs John Ronneberg Wednesday June 7.

Silver wedding anniversary for Rev and Mrs Howlett at Billings church

The Howletts celebrated their silver wedding with a Sunday reception at Mayflower Congregational Church in Billings. Guests included Ross Williams, Miss Lois Williams, Mrs L W Baskett, Mrs Vic Braaten, and Mr and Mrs Clive Haas. The couple wed in Big Timber during 1940 to 44 while he pastored there. Jean Worden Howlett taught in Big Timber Public School. They have four children: David in London on a Rhodes scholarship, Bob a Montana State University junior, Greg a West High senior, and Susan a West High sophomore.

Vacancies To Be Filled in Schools

Superintendent A C McDonald reports two contracts signed for the coming term. Miss Eldred Brown and Miss Marilyn Tollefson, both of Billings, will join the elementary ranks, with Tollefson in fifth grade and Brown in second or third. Principal Ramberg will fill two high school posts, Patsy Harvey and Darrell Meskimen, as replacements are sought.

Parade plans completed for city rodeo procession

Parade chairmen Tope Strobel Victor Schriv er and Gilmore Lake report plans finalized for a noon parade. Out of town units are set to participate with pre judging at 11 30 at city park. Prizes depend on contributions with multiple float and rider categories.

Sheridan William Miller from Sheridan Wyoming visited relatives in Big Timber for a few days. Weekend visitors included Mr and Mrs Tom Hammer of Hardin at the Robert Brownlee home. Memorial Day guests Homer Wheeler Jr and daughter from Helena visited Albert Wagner’s home and planned calls in Livingston. A card from Sylvia Dixon says she left Riverview Florida May 24 and will return to Big Timber this week. Oscar Vik and two daughters travel from Minneapolis to Norway for about twenty one days. Vik last visited Norway in 1959.

Model T Race Draws Entries

A Model T race slated for Saturday June 10 draws 15 entries with more expected. Local racers Hank Lee Don DeCock and Jack Altimus will compete along with Ralph Macy of South Dakota. Prizes total 100 for first 50 for second 25 for third plus trophies for top four and the lucky thirteenth. Cars depart Big Timber at 3 00 p m with two minute intervals to Melville and back under Montana Model T rules.

Ground Breaking Services for Evangelical Free Church

Ground breaking services were held Sunday at the Evangelical Free church corner Fourth and Everett for a building program to enlarge facilities. About sixty attendees heard music from local churches, a sermon by Rev. Keel Dresback, and greetings from visiting pastors. Excavation was postponed due to rain until weather permits.

North Collins New York five held after narcotics raid at a home near the village. Kurt Fiedler 26 his wife Emelie 23 and Kurt’s brother Eric Fiedler all of Buffalo charged with possession and visiting premises where drugs are used. William Hutton 24 and Deirdre 23 of North Collins charged with possession marijuana cocaine and hallucinogens and maintaining premises used for drugs. Bail set at 500 each. June 5 hearing scheduled.

Jones Serves With Infantry in Vietnam

Libby Montana native Larry R. Jones 18 arrived at Pleiku base camp in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division on May 4 after 50 hours of training with the 4th Replacement Detachment. He joined the Army last November from Fort Polk Louisiana where he was stationed and previously worked for St. Regis.
