Sherman Eaton died unexpectedly at his home at Eaton's Inn after years of asthma. He was 31. Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday at 2 30 PM at the Big Timber Lutheran Church with Rev. E S Tollefson of Livingston officiating.
Funeral services were conducted at St. Marks Episcopal church for Ralph C. Jarrett age 45. He died from a pulmonary embolism linked to injuries from a haying accident on his ranch last Wednesday. Jarrett previously served as Sweet Grass county sheriff from 1939 to 1943 and married Jean Nicholson in 1940. He is survived by his widow, two sons Monte and Steven, a daughter Connie, his mother Inez Jarrett, a brother Tom, and six sisters, with burial at Mountain View.
Paul W True named manager of the Big Timber unit succeeding George W Ward who transfers to Dillon to lead the Vaughn Ragsdale store there. True arrived in Big Timber last Monday effective July 31 with Vaughn Ragsdale since 1948. Ward becomes Dillon store manager August 14 and active in Lions club JCC and church roles.
Last rites for Mrs Frances Price were held at the Lowry chapel on Saturday afternoon with Rev Jones of Livingston officiating. Price died Wednesday of last week after a stroke. Burial was in Mountain View. She was born February 14 1689 at Red Oak Town to George O and Caroline Potter. She moved to Worland Wyoming in 1904 and married there in 1906 to William H Price. They moved to Big Timber in 1923 and she lived there ever since. Surviving are five children Harry L Price Muriel Spehar Lillian Horsewood May Polland and George H Price, a brother L A Jameson, and three grandchildren.
Recreation Director Roy Snyder announced the pool opens August 1. Those registered must report July 31 to pick up cards and learn hours. Monday is the final day to register for swimming.
A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Oscar Mc Clure of Melville on July 20 at Lott Hospital in Livingston.
Auburn Washington native Betty Willard pictured for the Globe-News as she earns a coveted role in Auburns second annual grand entry. Daughter of Milton and Mrs Willard she moved from Big Timber five years ago with deep ties to her grandmother Mrs Willard and uncle Clayton Willard. Betty greets friends from her Big Timber third grade and hopes they remember her.
Funeral services for Mrs. Oskar Drivdahl were held at the Big Timber Lutheran church with Rev. E. E. Tollefson officiating. She died July 16 after a stroke at her Bozeman hospital. Burial was in Mountain View. Survived by her husband, two sons Emil and Louis, two daughters Mrs. Leo Overfelt and Mrs. Harry Plaggemeyer, and 13 grandchildren.
Zeke Bowers and his two year old chimpanzee Changa charm children and adults with performances around town. Changa displays human-like speech and emotions, insisting on attention from her “uncle” Gene Payne and shows affection for a young girl, causing a brief heartbreak when separated. They plan to entertain crowds in the bull ring during the rodeo week.
Police chief Ted C. Busha announces McLeod Street from Eighth Avenue to the highway will be closed to parking after 5 a.m. Sunday at the request of the parade committee. Spectators will have a better view. residents and business houses urged to inform visitors of the curb restriction.
The note lists attendees including Mrs. Dale Gottlob and her guest Mrs. Ellen Nichols of Billings, along with Kenneth Wright and her sister, attending a gathering hosted by Mire on Living Street.
A five day rodeo show and a county race meet headline Big Timber events this weekend. The Cremer rodeo returns Sunday at 2:30 with top acts and 23 head of stock. Saturday features the Sweet Grass Racing association meet with eleven events and $1,130 in purses plus 75 percent of entry fees. A thousand dollar match race features Danger Boy C against Dutch S, with other notable entrants and a western parade to open the day.
The 13 day old daughter of Mr and Mrs Burt C Jensen of Helena died in a Minneapolis hospital after emergency surgery and a flight there for treatment of an abnormal windpipe esophagus opening. The infant, born with the condition, was fed by IV and had air reaching the stomach while food entered the lungs. The Jensens and a nurse accompanied the baby on the flight.
Montana Power plans to abandon its gas station in Big Timber and move staff to Absarokee for a large pumping station. Local officials and civic groups pressed officials to keep the project in Big Timber, but the engineer says relocating would be impractical and costly. Six families would be affected by the move.
Mr and Mrs Harry Jones announce the birth of a son at the Lott hospital. The new arrival is the latest addition to the Jones family with relatives expressing joy.
Mary Mer and partner headline the Cremer rodeo on Sunday and join the charade Sunday morning alongside Fay Blessing Nancy Sheppard and Ruth Marion, Leo Cremer’s top nation’s trick riders. They have performed in major shows including Madison Square Garden. The Pioneer fielded an inquiry from True Experiences magazine seeking an interview with Mary.
