Town Council Reports June Activity and Finances
At the regular meeting the town marshal said he made seven arrests in June, delivered 23 meals from the Big Timber restaurant, and collected 27 road taxes in cash plus one in labor. The treasurer showed a June balance on hand of 1851.92, plus 240.00 received, totaling 1891.92, with 365.80 paid out, leaving 1526.12 on July 1. Bills totaling 305.12 were allowed. The marshal was instructed to clear boulders from that avenue.
Public Land Policy Debate at Denver Convention

Tragic Drowning of John Widdicombe Jr at Melville Ranch
John Widdicombe Jr., son of Mr and Mrs John Widdicombe, drowned in Fish Creek near the Melville ranch in Sweet Grass county after a cloud burst. An athletic rescue attempt by relatives and a young girl failed. the body was recovered after dark by a dozen men. The funeral was held in Bozeman with Eastern Star members in attendance. John, born August 27 1894 near Melville, had spent a Bozeman life for schooling and had traveled to Europe with his mother.
