Retail Price Index Shows Steady Rise in Butte
The Montana OPA reports the butter price index rose 11.2 percent since subsidy termination and the overall retail price index for foods in Butte on Nov 13 1945 at 137.9 percent of the 1935 39 average, up 3.3 percent from Nov 14 1944. Moderate income families paid 0.9 percent more from Oct 16 to Nov 13 1945. Carrots lettuce and apples up while oranges potatoes and sweet potatoes down.

Aerial hunters found dead in Montana wreck
The bodies of two aerial hunters, Larry Dow 28 and Bob Curtis 33, were found Wednesday 18 miles west of Jordan Montana after their plane crashed while hunting coyotes. Dow sat at the controls and Curtis’ rifle rested in his lap. The plane did not burn. Don, once a Plentywood instructor, had just wed. Curtis was father of four.

Girl Is Sentenced To 3 Years For Shooting
Dorothy Hurlbert, 19, Forsyth, pleaded guilty in district court to manslaughter in her father Marion Hurlbert’s fatal 22 caliber rifle shooting during a family quarrel. Judge W. R. Flachsenhar imposed a suspended three year prison term. Rosebud County Attorney J. J. McIntosh led the case as the coroner’s jury held Hurlbert responsible for the heart wound. Sheriff George Burns said the shooting followed alcohol-fueled abuse and a Slapped son incident.

Soldier Condemned To Die In Japan
An American soldier in Osaka was condemned to death by court martial for the murders of two Japanese men in Nara on November 24 before his departure to the United States. Witnesses state he attacked the pair after drinking whisky beer and sake, fatally stabbing one and then a second victim in similar fashion as friends intervened. He was arrested in Nagoya the next day while awaiting processing for return home.

Mrs. Hopkins Rites Held at Harlowton
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Nellie Hopkins at Harlowton by Rev. Gibson after a four year illness. Pallbearers were William Olson, C. J. Vallance, James Stickley, Charles Walton, A. R. Marley and R. Hayman. Born November 15 1866 in Penobscot Maine, she married Stillman Hopkins in 1886 and lived in Montana since 1895, later running a Melville store and working on the Hart ranch before moving to Twedot. Surviving are daughter Frances Jones, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
