Medical Scientists Declare Smoking Causes Lung Cancer
A blue ribbon panel of 10 scientists under Surgeon General Luther L. Terry found cigarette smoking contributes substantially to mortality from lung cancer and other diseases. After 14 months of study the report urged remedial action and said data show smoking is causally linked to lung cancer in men, with women showing similar trends.

A 90 minute illustrated Project Think will be presented Tuesday January 21 at 1 30 P M in the Big Timber grade school auditorium. Sponsored by the Big Timber Lions Club and Sweet Grass County Home Demonstration clubs the event is adult focused with no admission charge. Dick Steadfield extension specialist Montana State College will discuss atoms in medicine industry radiation fallout and the American heritage in the atomic age. The program aligns with the 1963 mobile campus exhibit The Tiny Giant and has drawn statewide interest.

PCA Will Observe 30th Anniversary
The Midland Production Credit Association, formed amid the Depression and rising agri cultural tech, will mark its 30th anniversary January 21 22 with about 500 members and guests at the Northern hotel Billings and Elks Country club Hardin. charter members elected nine directors including C A Rupert, J H Leuthold, K C Haugan, J R Clawson, H W Bunston, A G Hoff, J P Turner, W B Spear and A A Lamp, who later staffed key posts. The Midland PCA began with 29 members and $150 000 to provide short term farmer and rancher credits in six counties Yellowstone Big Horn Carbon Sweet Grass Stillwater and Treasure. By 1949 it had repaid the original government capital and become fully member owned. It later expanded to intermediate term loans and refined budgeting to align with commercial lenders.

The Senior Citizens hosted a 1 pm homesteaders banquet at the Dugout with 20 to 30 attendees. Tables wore greens and newsprint mats. menu featured chuck wagon stew and corn bread with baked beans. Collenbornes Surprised On Their 25th Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Clint Collenborne celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with a pot luck supper hosted by friends at the Nygaard home. They married January 13 1939 in Kalispell. At the annual meeting of Melville Lutheran Church the officers for 1964 were elected. Victor Tronrud, deacon. Bill Sargerit, trustee. Morris Tronrud Jr., secretary. Lloyd Rein, treasurer. George Tronrud Jr. and Stanton Brannin, auditors. Pastor Rev Ohio Sohn reported baptized membership 114 and confirmed 83, with 1963 receipts totaling 4184.46 and a building fund balance of 3237.34 on hand for a planned project.
