Big Timber Fights County Division Plan

Local businessmen oppose a proposed split of Sweet Grass county into a new county from parts of Sweet Grass Carbon and Yellowstone. A Big Timber Commercial Club vote pledges to defeat the plan and to lobby legislators while gathering data and preparing pamphlets for the next meeting.

Furley Marries Eva Taylor in Helena Ceremony

Joseph B. Furley of Harlowton and Eva D. Taylor of Kansas City wed at the Ho tel Fewlie in Helena with Fred L. Gibson and Nellie Barger as witnesses. The couple plans homestead life at the Fish Creek ranch near Harlowton and will tour Big Timber for congratulations.

A. Lee prominent McLeod rancher died Sunday afternoon after a seven day pneumonia illness. Born December 25 1861 in Trondhjem Norway he lived in Sweet Grass and Boulder valleys. Survived by wife Isabel and daughter Selma funeral Tuesday at Lutheran church with Rev Erickson officiating. Burial at Mountain View cemetery.

Franklin Marries in Livingston Quiet Ceremony

Hon W P Franklin and Miss Bessie Bryan of this city wed Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs W C Fryer. Rev Badcon of the Methodist church officiated. Franklin, long a leading cattleman, has retired and is said to be wealthy. The bride is a popular local young woman. The Pioneer offers congratulations.

Public School Week Report from Big Timber

The Big Timber Public School weekly summary for the week ending January 8 notes poor attendance due to cold and storms with fifty three absences the highest weekly total this year. Room I lists 36 students in Grade I and names several tardies. Room II reports the new year starting well despite cold and many students staying home. Room III mentions Monday cold closure and a seating change Tuesday. Room IV describes students furnishing a home like classroom with a moving picture show and calendars as decorations. several students are noted as absent or late.
