Montana lawmakers convene as Norris takes office

The eleventh Montana legislature organized with W W McDowell chosen speaker and Edward Burke as speaker pro tem. Senate leaders included Lt Gov Allen presiding and Thomas Everett as president pro tem. A large inaugural ball followed, marking a festive start despite snow and cold.

College to Offer One-Week Dairy Course at Montana Agricultural College

Montana Agricultural College announces a practical one week course for dairy farmers starting Wednesday January 13 and running to January 19, with sessions daily 9 am to 4 pm. Thirty six farmers from fifteen towns attended last year, and this year cheese making returns with free cheese for attendees. Enrollment is first come first served to 700 pounds of milk capacity.

New Board of County Commissioners Meet in Big Timber

Big Timber Montana January 4 1909 new board convened to organize with H O Kellogg retiring and John Esp elected commissioner to fill Kellogg's term John Rye and George A Leasby chosen as chairmen for two years The board approved appointments and county poor bonds and examined officers books and authorized bonds and warrants.

Dry farming in the Great Plains urged for moisture retention

The Department of Agriculture backed dry land farming in the West with a division for Dry and Agricultural Investigation. Early results are scarce, but plans include long term experiments at state substations to teach thorough tillage and moisture-conserving practices.

The board approves a bond issue and orders repairs including jail interior painting and bridge work. Clerk to buy two typewriters for county offices. culverts ordered totaling 656 feet.
