Great Falls Teacher Roy Barkley Dies After Cancer Battle
Roy V Barkley 33 a Great Falls high school Spanish teacher until retirement died Monday in a Chicago hospital after cancer. Survivors include widow Ariene Holland two sons Erica and Jason and his parents Mr and Mrs J B Barkley of Missoula. Relatives from here attended the funeral in Great Falls and others visited in Big Timber before returning home. Barkley born January 4 1931 in San Francisco taught at MSU studied in Mexico and Quito Ecuador attended MSU earning bachelor and master degrees and received a National Defense Education Act grant in 1959.

Cecily Carl, chair of the Sweet Grass County ASC committee, explains the 1964 feed grain program is voluntary for producers of corn barley and grain sorghum. Eligible farms that sign up between February 10 and March 27 and divert at least 20 percent of their base feed grain to approved conservation uses can receive diversion payments and become eligible for price support loans. Payments vary by crop and diversion level, with higher rates for larger diversions, and a new rule caps the diversion payment at 20 percent of the land's fair market value in 1964.
