Driver Faces Manslaughter Charge After Fatal Crash

Civil War veteran Sam Taggart dies at Red Lodge
Sam Taggart, a Union Army veteran and Red Lodge pioneer who mined coal and is linked to drilling Montana’s first oil derrick, died in his sleep at 95. Born 1841 in Illinois, he served in the Eleventh Michigan Cavalry, fought at Knoxville and Salt Works, and was briefly hanged as a war captive before an honorable discharge in 1865. He lived in Omaha before settling in Red Lodge in 1886 and counted Buffalo Bill Cody among his acquaintances.

Mrs Gladys C Bachman 32 wife of Edward Bachman of 810 North Twenty-ninth street was fatally crushed when a skid ding automobile jumped the turbine and pinned her against a retaining wall on a Los Angeles street Monday at 8. She had come to California two weeks earlier to visit sisters Mrs Alpha V Patterson and Miss Pena Vogel and was to return to Billings late this week. Mr Bachman, a Billings Gas Company employee, flew to California by plane Tuesday afternoon.

Brother of John P Campbell Is Dead
William Campbell an early Bearpaw country resident died Friday in a Great Falls hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. He suffered neck injuries in an October 1935 car crash with his nephew Arthur Campbell, splitting his neck and requiring long hospital stays. Funeral services were held at Chinook with Rev. T. M. Kingsley officiating and burial in Chinook cemetery. He was born March 26 1876 in De Soto Missouri and moved to Montana in 1893. He never married and is survived by three brothers James Joe and John P and two sisters Mrs Mary Whitesel and Mrs Sarah Huskey.
