City Council holds brief meeting after holiday break

The City Council adjourned a short session after approving the monthly financial report and minutes. They discussed Christmas tree lights, a possible campground at Old Boulder Rd for next season, and legality of certain levies.

Chamber hears onetime shopping hours and development plans

Ramona Holderman reports early evening shopping hours were successful and may return next year on a different schedule. Industrial Development aims to meet Billings Chamber officials to explore small environmentally safe businesses for the area. Terry Ryles notes zoning interest is low and urges public participation in Planning Director Mike Sierz's meetings. Jim Snodgrass of Frye's says the restaurant will accommodate athletic tournaments and future conventions.

Local programs to start after Jan 1 in Sweet Grass County

The Montana Legislature raised beer and alcohol taxes funding county alcohol treatment programs. Rimrock Foundation of Billings will provide services in Sweet Grass County through the Sweet Grass County Foundation, with Dr. Thomas Ivey and others as directors. The project runs until June 30 1978 and will be evaluated for potential continuation.

Last Minute Christmas Shopping Hours In City

About 39 shopping hours remain as Big Timber offers four shopping days and three shopping evenings for late gifts. Local stores stay open today through Friday with extra evening hours and normal daytime hours. Christmas Eve opening is listed with early closures on Monday December 26. Carolers and school programs with times at Melville Bridge Greycliff and Meleod schools add seasonal events. Winners of the Jaycee Chamber of Commerce decorating contest will be announced in the December 28 Pioneer.

Ranchers elected to county ASC committee in mail balloting

Three ranchers in Sweet Grass County were elected to ASC positions as Alfred Anderson of Springdale won a second term as committee member. First alternate is Bill Dansk and second alternate is yet to be determined, as voting rules call for one member and two alternates each year.

Body Found North of Reedpoint In Montana

A 51 year old Helena man was found dead north of Reedpoint likely died between Saturday and Sunday. Names and cause of death were not released pending kin notification. Autopsy set for Great Falls. The body was located near Manor Coulee by Roger Phipps and reported to Sweet Grass County Sheriffs Office. cross into Stillwater County prompted transfer to Stillwater County Sheriff's Department. investigation ongoing.

County board reappointments announced for several panels

County Commissioners announced reappointments to several boards. Ralph Cosgriff and Morris Tronrud stay on the Pair Board. Sam Langhus remains on the airport board and Oscar Forsythe on the cemetery board. Annette Thompson is reappointed to the County Planning Board. The county office will be closed on the two holidays.
