Montana Highway Patrol supervisor Charles Sheridan outlined the new driver's license procedure. Renewal of valid 1947 licenses requires no exam, just fee, form, and mailing. new applicants must pass an exam and submit to licensing steps.
The community sing with Santa Claus distributing treats is set for Monday evening December 22 at 7 30. Knights of Pythias and American Legion Auxiliary organize with all residents encouraged to join. A tree will be decorated at the library and rural county children will receive candy and nuts.
Royal Neighbors held their annual Christmas party on Wednesday evening with Mrs. Harvey Cort and others in charge of the program. The hall featured Christmas decorations and a tree. The program included piano solos, skits, duets, recitations, and a saxophone solo, with about 80 attendees and a pot luck lunch. The next meeting is slated for January 7 with officer installation planned.
Claiborns travel to Wichita Falls Texas to spend the holidays with their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs G E Mahaffey. They expect to be away a month or six weeks. En route home Ralph Wendland of Kansas City Missouri stayed with his mother in law Mrs R F Broughton from Tuesday to Friday last week while returning from Deer Lodge after the death of his father Reverend BE Wendland.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce voted to sponsor the high school football banquet with the date to be set at their next meeting. Letters and awards will be presented at the affair. The group discussed holiday store closings and a winter event during Christmas. A former Fraternity Hall dance with Malcolm Goosey on piano followed the session.
The grade school team edged Columbus 24 to 20 in a preliminary to a high school contest at Stillwater county seat last Saturday night. Big Timber led 6 4 after one quarter and 10 6 at halftime, with Columbus scoring mostly from the foul line and Big Timber missing free throws. Players McCailey Neal McDonald Lamp Voges Wordal Tucker Widdicombe plus others contributed as the squad prepared to meet Manhattan Friday.
Pythian Sisters elected officers for 1948 at their meeting last Thursday led by Most excellent chief Mrs Sayre Nevin and other officers including excellent senior Mrs Jim Kratzer and protector Mrs Ray Beck. The next meeting moves to Friday December 19 with a Christmas party following and installation set for January 8.
Improved condition noted for Lavold who suffered a minor stroke days ago. Kill Kare Klub held its annual Christmas party Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. Mc Lean Clark home with 37 attendees and gifts exchanged. Mrs. Lanagan Barnes and Moschelle visited Livingston to see family.
The program lists seventh and eighth grade choruses, a high school girls’ glee club, a high school mixed chorus, soloists Lois Anderson and others, and selections including Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Angels We Have Heard on High. Directed by Magda Sundeen and Bernice Tronrud with Ruth Bieber and Geraldine Neumann as accompanists.
Mrs. R F Sraughtoe was honored at a family dinner for her 75th birthday at the Forrest Ullman home. Evening Circle met with hosts Mrs. Carl Kjarmo and Mrs. William Refsland. devotionals led by Mrs. C C Nicholson and Christmas corsages demonstrated. lunch served. Mrs. Roy Webber returned from a two month Montgomery Louisiana trip visiting parents and sister in El Paso. Scott Hoskinson and F F A members attended a Billings parent and son banquet. Frank Blanchard funeral held. pallbearers listed. Helen McCarn, 67, former Hunters Hot Springs co-manager, died in Colorado Springs. Mrs Emma Rees left for Denver to visit family and Albuquerque. son Yule to meet her. Big Timber visitors include John Lende. Santa headed to Moose Hall for 3 p m Saturday. Roy Ellison opens Roys Maytag Shop, selling and repairing appliances. local native returns after Oklahoma stint.
L J Wilder, 71, a Sweet Grass county rancher for 27 years, was killed when struck by an east bound freight train at the Carney crossing nine miles west of Big Timber. He was alone in his car en route home after a trip to town. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church. Only his widow survives. three children had died earlier.
The Congregational Church invites worshippers to Christmas services at 11 o clock with a Christmas message by Minister N Bennett. Church school meets at 10. A White Gift program and Bible gifts in native tongues are planned. Pilgrim Fellowship gathers Monday at 6 for a brief meeting, party, and caroling. all young people invited.
Columbus Cougars sprinted to a 56 to 28 victory over the Big Timber Sheep herders Saturday night for their fifth straight win of the 1947 season. Bob Miller led with 14 points, Dean Shields had 12, Eddie Gunderson led the visitors with 11, while Wheeler Tollefson Wagner and Seyrhour added two each for Columbus. McArthur, McDonald, Campbell and Boyd contributed for Big Timber.
The American Legion team won 53 to 38 against the Harlowton Moose but fell 40 to 62 to Billings Stockmen and 60 to 32 to Livingston Highlanders. They stayed even with Billings through three quarters before a late rally failed. The players were fatigued after the afternoon game.
To Visit Brother Coy Valgamore left Sunday morning by car for Los Angeles where he will visit indefinitely with two brothers, Ivan and Chester Valgamore. He spent last Friday in Harlowton visiting a sister, Mrs. E. J. Riggs.
Christmas programs announced for Sunday December 21 include an 8 o clock evening service and a Sunday school program. A Christmas day service is planned in LA with a Thee concert on Sunday December 28 at 8 o clock. No services Sunday morning December 21. Melville hosts a Christmas service Sunday afternoon at 2 o clock followed by a Sunday school program at 3 o clock.
The Evangelical United Brethren Church invites parishioners to a Christmas morning service at 11 with a full program of carols solos and readings. An 8 pm children’s program follows with songs and spoken parts. The pastor wishes readers a peaceful Christmas season.
