Early settlers transform Lower Yellowstone Valley into ranching hub
A century ago explorers found abundant game and rich grass in the Crow reserve between the Boulder and Stillwater rivers. By 1896 Dutch Gust Marquette and others settled in Bridger and Deer creeks, founding sheep and cattle operations, building the Dry Creek canal by 1905 to irrigate twenty seven ranches, while two general stores at Greycliff and Reed serve local needs and stock raising remains dominant.

Odd Christmas Clams Sent to Kin in Kansas
A Maine man shipped a box of ice cold clams as a holiday present to relatives in Kansas. Town Clerk M. J. Houlihan of New Town Connecticut preserved the 1723 Indian deed by placing it on a sick bed and enclosing it in a sturdy cover. Railroad workers unearthed a vast buried block of ancient ice near Black Butte mountain in Siskiyou county California. The Central Park menagerie polar bear Klondike died, the third such loss in a year, each valued around two thousand dollars. San Salvador, one of the world’s smallest countries, boasted 405 postage stamps, while England issues 205 domestically and 5,711 for colonies, totaling 4,069 in Europe.
