Attendance was strong at the county fair for 4-H clubs and Future Farmers of America. Exhibits across classes showed quality crops and produce with prizes awarded by the Sweet Grass County Farm Bureau to several youths for sheep cattle horses and craft entries. The program included a band concert a dress revue talks on peace rural electrification and water conservation and a closing program with school races.

Texans Disperse Communist Meeting at City Auditorium
In San Antonio on August 25 a large crowd disrupted a Communist meeting. Police and firemen fired tear gas and water from hoses to disperse about 100 attendees, who fled through rear doors as rocks and shouts erupted. Mayor Maury Maverick, backing free speech, had stationed over 200 officers nearby.

Roscoe Turner Sets 10 Mile Air Speed Record
Cleveland Aug 28 Roscoe Turner pushed his racing plane to an average 297.767 mph to establish a world record for a 10 mile closed course. He soared to 345 to 350 mph on the straights and led early qualifiers for next Monday's 300 mile Thompson event in the National Air Races. Turner previously held a Thompson race record of 283 mph in 1938.

State Publishers Deplore Taxation System for Benefit of Unemployed
At the Montana State Press association fifty fourth annual convention in Helena August 26 Lloyd C. Raw was elected president with W. B. Vennard and Karl Martinson as vice presidents and Mrs. W. W. Cheeley as secretary treasurer. A seven member advisory committee was named to study publisher problems led by Ray Ruhle. The delegates endorsed a resolution opposing payroll taxation for social security favoring general taxation instead and asserting this burden harms employers and workers alike. Pictures of Siamese twin Hereford calves born at Bert Plaggemeyer ranch north of town have drawn attention in the Pioneer window since Saturday. Exhibited by Harry Plaggemeyer at the 4 H club fair, the calves were born mid April and found dead April 15 on the range. They are two perfect female calves joined from chest to tail with one heart and one set of organs for both, the heart located centrally.

Portsmouth N H Aug 28 For the second time in three months the bow of the ill fated submarine Squalus rose to the surface of the Atlantic but the 26 dead crew and craft again sank back to the bottom. The Falcon pumped air into the bow as salvage workers labored since May 23 but bubbles were rare. Admiral Cole ordered the stern sunk back to the bottom.

John W. Schofield Montana state superintendent of fisheries was authorized by the state board of examiners to survey fish culturing methods in five neighboring states.
