Beginning Band Interest For Billings Students
Beginning band inquiries will be followed up in the first week of school per Mrs. Edith Harper. An instrument display by two Billings music stores will occur again this year with no date set yet. Notices will go to fifth grade parents and those in grades 6 7 8 once decided. Four instruments are available for beginners bass drum baritone horn alto horn and one or two drums. Applicants should have some piano or music reading ability be at least a large fifth grader or sixth grader hold a C average and have teacher approval.

Services Held For Mrs Howard Mason
Mrs. Howard Mason, 73, died of a heart ailment at Community hospital. Born in Stafford England June 27 1884 she came to Montana in 1915 and married Howard Mason in Big Timber February 235. Survivors include her husband a daughter Hazel Ewan two grandchildren two sisters and several nieces and nephews in England. Funeral services were held at St Marks Episcopal church with interment at Mountain View.

Miss Charlotte Jean Woods daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Deenky of Reed Point married Oswald David Nevin son of Mr and Mrs Oswald Nevin Sr of Big Timber in a Friday ceremony at St Josephs church Reed Point Rev Chas A Dever officiated music by Mrs Larry Aber. The couple exchanged vows in a double ring rite with attendants including Miss Carlyne Rogers and Miss Muriel Garrard.

Jaycees Win 1957 Big Timber Softball Title Over Lions
The Jaycees defeated the Lions 18 to 14 to claim the Huidekoper trophy and the Big Timber Softball League championship, their second title after 1956. The victory capped a late rally from 14 5 down after five innings as Jaycees scored five in the bottom of the fifth and eight in the sixth. Lions struck early with seven runs in the fifth but could not hold on. Team rosters list Jaycees players Elmer Johnson to Dave Wagner and manager Bob Bowers. Lions roster includes Henry Klindt to George Algard with Percy Cox and Palmer Finsvik as managers. Don Cameron presented the trophy to Bob Bowers.

Maupin family from Pomona Calif left Reed Point after visiting Roy Maupin's aunt Mrs Myrtle MacLean. Roy, a 1936 Sweet Grass graduate now supervisor in California freight claims, said he would return if Big Timber offered work despite traffic jams and crowds.
Bids Opened on New Fire Truck
Braaten's won the contract to furnish a fire truck cab and chassis for 3728 dollars. Howie Fire Equipment Co of Anderson Indiana will provide the truck equipment totaling about 9265 dollars. The total bid sums to 12993.91 dollars with delivery expected in February. Fire underwriters anticipate classing Big Timber from 7 to 6 and a 10 percent insurance rate reduction.

Play Day Winners Highlight Ropin' N Ridin Event
Bill Fraser won the stake race at the Ropin' N Ridin' club play day held at the fairgrounds Sunday. Dick Irwin finished second, Vonnie Hakes third, with Bernard Hakes and Marjorie Robinson tied for Burton Robinson. Fraser posted the fastest calf roping time of 22.5 seconds. An additional play day is planned for Sept. 8 at the same venue.

Clouse Couple Celebrates 40th Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Harry Clouse were honored at a buffet dinner hosted by daughter Mrs Jack Collins in Livingston on their fortieth anniversary. Attendees included extensive Clouse family members from Richland Reed Point Big Timber Spokane and Livingston. The couple married in Billings on Sept 13 1917 and have five children thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs Clark Green Dies After Stroke in Big Timber
Mrs Clark C. Green died at Sweet Grass Community hospital on Friday August 23 after a stroke. Born February 14 1875 in Paoli Wisconsin she taught school before marriage to Clark C. Green in Belleville Wisconsin. The couple lived across several states before settling in Big Timber, with five children and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church Fromberg with COES 51 assisting and interment at Rockvale cemetery.

Highway Crash Near Grey Cliff Injures Joliet Man
Howard T. Nye of Joliet suffers a hip injury after a Sunday crash one mile east of Grey Cliff. Police say his car hit a telephone pole after officers avoided a car on the wrong side of the road. Gerald H. Lansing of Tyler, Texas, was fined $25 for careless driving after his vehicle ran off the highway five miles west of town due to excessive speed.
