Traveling reviewers Duane and Dorothy Hopper commend Big Timber for its tree lined streets and the Spring Creek Campground. They praise hosts for unmatched hospitality and plan to extend their stay beyond two weeks, marking the area a standout stop in thousands of miles.
Rich Paulson of Sweet Grass county high travels to Great Falls for ten days of practice for the East West Shrine football classic to be played August 21 at 8 p m in the high school stadium. The annual game draws about 8000 fans and supports the Spokane Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital. A Friday banquet precedes the event with Rich and five schoolmates present, and a Saturday parade features Shrine units from guest cities. Rich is joined by two former SGHS players Jim Myers and Loyd Berg.
Mrs. Ed Holmberg won the contest by correctly identifying the mystery personality as Mrs. Paul Ballard from a field of hundreds. Dr. Ben Olness drew the winning list, and Holmberg will collect eighty five dollars in winnings for her efforts.
The 29th annual Sweet Grass county Fair opens next week. County Agent Ellis Williams reminds that entry blanks are due in his office by Wednesday, August 25 at 5 p.m. Livestock arrives August 26 and must be in place by 9:30 a.m. Judging starts at 10 a.m. Exhibits may enter Thursday evening. The 4H show and other events run August 26 27, with the Jaycee auction Saturday night. A full program outline appears next week.
SGHS prepares to start term after summer maintenance and pending supply deliveries. Principal A R Collins notes two teachers still resolve housing. Ed Bergquist moves from O Dell house to Lowry Apt West 2nd Ave while Paul Nelson seeks a location. Other staff, including Patsy Harvey and Richard Willems, have found housing, with updates continued on page eight.
The class of 1930 at Sweet Grass County High School held its first reunion in 35 years. Attendees included teachers Arthur Schump and Ella Dallman Adam, with many classmates from Dillon Livingston Missoula Santa Barbara Seattle and other places. Five members have died and Nettie Rudd Jackson was reported seriously ill in Livingston Memorial hospital.
SGHS outlines two day registration next week for the 1965-66 term with grade by time slots on August 26 and 27. Freshmen and new students must register, while fees include a $5 activity and a $3.50 deposit, with some waivers for returning deposit payers and multi class families. School begins August 30 with a gym assembly and orientation sessions for faculty August 28.
The Style Revue and Talent Night Show moved from Friday to Thursday August 26 under the Sweet Grass county home demonstration clubs chaired by Mrs. Jerry Hauge and Mrs. Jonas Maitland. Acts must be registered with the chairmen by August 20 ahead of a 2 p.m. courthouse meeting to finalize the program. Idaho vacationers Rev Grady Chaney and five children leave today for Gand Point to visit Mrs Chaney’s brother-in-law and sister. John S Cramer of Livingston reports his car struck a deer seven miles west of town causing about 150 dollars in damage
Miss Janice Maykuth will teach a fifth grade in Big Timber Public School this term. A Montana State University elementary education graduate and Bozeman native, she attended Bozeman Senior High School and is a Lutheran church member. Her practice teaching occurred at Gallatin Gateway.
Buddy Clark of Helena joins New Chef Frye’s Café and Lounge as chef. Clark moved to Big Timber a week ago and lives next to Ed Walker’s house. Walker works in Virginia City and recently moved to the Charles Bouse residence on East Seventh Street.

Tope Strobel president of the Big Timber Yard and Scale Assa says new scales for livestock producers will be in operation soon. Money has been subscribed for the property at the former Black Sawmill site north of town on highway 191. Only legal work remains before construction starts. the site has been purchased.

Five local Boys Staters left Saturday morning for Dillon to participate in the nine day politi cal governmental and civic activities. Participants include Jack Simmons Ron Martin with John Ellison sidelined by strep throat and Terry Mosness as the group’s chauffeur.
