The Jaycee sponsored livestock sale returns as a major fair feature for this Friday and Saturday at the fairgrounds. Local butchers will handle meat, and free trucking is provided through Ray Esp and Brantes Trucking. Out of county buyers may use Quick Freeze Locker in Livingston or Ryegate Cold Storage. Judging begins Friday at 10 am with exhibits open until 5 pm Saturday.

Lewis Dickson Dies in Idaho
Mrs. Andrew Megaard of Bozeman reports the death of Lewis Dickson on July 16 in a St. Maries hospital Idaho. Survived by widow Doris twin sister of Mrs Megaard four children and several grandchildren. Services were July 19 at St Maries and Mrs Dickson visited Bozeman and Billings with relatives afterward.

Sweet Grass county ropers dominated the Harlo jackpot roping event in Harlowton Sunday. Larry McComb won calf roping with the fastest tie receiving extra purse. Bud Baylis finished second and Norman Souchard third. McComb with Spike Van Cleve won team tying with fastest tie extra. Owen and Ogden Anderson of Winifred placed second. Bud Baylis and Sonny Bohleen of Livingston finished third. Contests used two calf and two steer averages.

Emmet Patten Dies In Billings
Michael Emmet Patten 63 died in a Billings hospital from a heart condition. Funeral at 10:30 Saturday from St Marys in Livingston with interment in Livingston Cemetery. A retired rancher born June 29 1897 in Highland Park Illinois, survived by sister Mrs Norman Bell of Billings and brothers Leo and Patrick of Seattle. He lived near Columbus before 1942 and moved to Billings in 1958.

Dahl a former Melville resident from Polson attended the Melville church jubilee and visited relatives. A Sunday hailstorm struck Swamp Creek area with limited damage, mainly near the Arne Gros field ranch and nearby structures, accompanied by a heavy cloudburst. Barley damage was reported by Art Stephens.

More than 500 attendees, possibly over 800, joined Melville Lutheran Church for its seventy fifth anniversary services at Hast Dot S Dot ranch. Dr. R A Daehlin of Great Falls spoke, with Rev. Peder Waldum and Rev. Ocee Johnson delivering readings and the anniversary address. Gov. Hugo Aronson and the governor’s party attended, and former pastors were honored. Music by Helen Rein and the Melville choir accompanied the celebration meal led by the Melville Women’s Missionary Federation.

Hathaways Observe Silver Anniversary in Big Timber
More than 100 friends attended a potluck in the Lutheran parish hall honoring Vernie and June Hathaway on their silver wedding anniversary. Vernie and June were married Aug. 12, 1935, in Cody, Wyoming, and have lived on the Hathaway home ranch on Big Timber Creek except for 1953 1954 in Canyonville Oregon. They have six children Terry Ruth Rev Alan Hathaway David Timmy and Jimmy. The event featured vocal numbers a cake cutting and gifts from friends and children.

Gerrit Scholten Dies Suddenly at 72
Gerrit John Wolternik Scholten, 72, of Dry Creek ranch died suddenly last Thursday from a heart attack while with Jim Faw spraying a ditch. Funeral services were held Monday at the Big Timber Evangelical United Brethren church. Surviving are two brothers Guy and Henry, and two sisters Julia and Dora Vilduis.

Livingston Derby Leads Triple Trout Prize Winners
In the 16th National Trout Derby at Mission near Livingston, Clyde Park resident Chet Barrow won first prize of 1000 dollars with a five pound 10 ounce Loch Leven caught on a sculpin. Clarence Hemminger of Costa Mesa earned 250 dollars for a four pound six ounce Loch Leven, while Jim Goosey of Livingston took 150 dollars for a four pound four ounce Loch Leven. Ruby Martin of Butte won the women's prize with a one pound seven ounce Native. Derby waters stretched east of Livingston along the Yellowstone, where anglers faced slick bottom and occasional slips into the river.
