Washington Aug 12 The finance committee reversed a plan to tax incomes as low as $800 a year and limited surtaxes to incomes over $1 000 000. The move followed bipartisan criticism and a meeting between Speaker Burns and President Roosevelt. The reversal leaves proposed increases on small salaries in doubt while preserving other levies such as estate taxes and capital stock taxes.

Forest Grove teen dies in Laurel road collision near Billings
James H. Hanson, 19, a Forest Grove graduate of Eastern Montana Normal School, died after a car crash five miles west of Billings on Laurel road. His companion George Sanderson, 23, a teacher from Laurel road, escaped with arm cuts. Hanson drove a car owned by his mother and collided with a second sedan driven by John P. Pope of route 2. The crash caused the Hanson car to roll twice and Hanson suffered a skull fracture and head wound.
