Funeral services for John P. Campbell pioneer stockman who died August 6 at his Big Timber home were conducted at the Congregational church with Rev. E Brentwood Barker officiating. Burial followed at Mountain View. Campbell, born December 23 1869 near De Soto Missouri, had a long career from ranch work on American Fork to homesteading the Top Hat ranch and running farms in Big Timber and Melville before retiring thirteen years ago. He leaves a widow Mattie C. Bogan and daughters Maude Hoglund and Grace Severance, plus two sisters and a brother.

Parachutist Course Completed At Fort Benning
Eddie Gunderson completed the Army parachutist course at Fort Benning Georgia last month as part of the 1st Student Brigade training. The program requires five airborne jumps with one jump in full equipment. Gunderson enlisted in Butte last September and began training June 4. he and his wife Rita Christensen now reside in Fayetteville North Carolina.

Laurel Team Wins Big At Regional North Pacific Shoot
Montana sent 40 shooters to the North Pacific states regional in Spokane on August 23 and earned top team honors two days in team matches. Bob Boydston Clinton Anderson Orville Boyles and Raymond Hoem of Big Timber led the Laurel Rifle club to victory. individual results included Anderson first in expert class Hoem second in sharpshooter and Boydston fourth in grand aggregate. Rex Neil of Cut Bank won marksman while Co L Carter of LaGrande Oregon took grand aggregate and advances to Jacksonville Florida national matches August 21-24. Ed Kucera, Laurel’s defending champ, could not participate.

Services At Lennep For Olaf Rostad
Funeral services for Olaf Rostad were held at Lennep Lutheran church with Rev. Lyle Onstad officiating. Rostad, 77, died after a short illness in Great Falls. A pioneer Meagher County rancher born in Norway, he came to Montana in 1892 and ranched until partial retirement in 1947. He married Marie Olsen in 1902, leaving three children and five grandchildren. Burial was in Lennep Cemetery. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers included nephews and numerous local residents.

Laurel deputy sheriff Livingston-Frank D Hartley won the eighth Livingston Trout Derby with a three pound 10% ounce trout above Harvat's Bridge as over 1,600 entrants chased seven miles of river in rain that turned milky white after a cliff slide. Cassie Torresdahl of Wilsall won the women's prize with a two and a half pound rainbow. Freeland of Bozeman was near the top with a three and a half pound rainbow and another two pound plus catch. Hartley will share half his $1,000 prize with partner Barney Hageman.
