Commissioners Fix Tax Levy for Sweet Grass County 1909

The Sweet Grass county commissioners set a levy of sixteen and a half mills for 1909. They approved tax distribution to school districts and Big Timber improvements, and instructed entry of Northern Pacific Railway assessments. Resignations in the road district and county examiners were accepted with replacements appointed. Stopovers up to ten days allowed en route for tourist fares from major cities.

Northern Pacific Announces Low One Way Fares

The Northern Pacific Railway reveals low second class one way fares in effect daily from September 15 to October 15, 1909, for travel to the North Pacific Coast and intermediate points. Fares apply to standard second class tickets.

Dry Farming Congress to Publish Advance Pamphlet

Montana officials announce preparation of an advance book for the Fourth Dry Farming Congress to be held in Billings October 25 to 28, with the International Dry Farms Exposition. Walter G. Brandenburg tours Montana gathering cooperation to publish the pamphlet for 5,000 congress members and 25,000 others.

Montana Exhibit Car to Tour Eastern States Next Month

C. D. Tibbetts, migration agent for the Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound railroad, travels Montana collecting exhibits for the Montana exhibit car. The car will tour the eastern states starting next month displaying grains grasses vegetables and farm scenes to promote Montana’s resources and attract visitors.

WACE WAR ON PREDATORY ANIMALS IN MONTANA FORESTS

The Forest Service sets aside $2000 in District One to hire hunters to destroy predatory animals across Montana and Idaho forests this spring. The effort aims to reduce bears wolves coyotes wildcats and lynxes with Andrew Peterson noted for ten wolves and thirty four coyotes in two months. Bears in Bitterroot Forest also threaten livestock with six bears killed including a large grizzly. A medical advert follows.
