Four ranchers from Sweet Grass County received Goodyear conservation certificates for outstanding work. Clark Engle of McLeod is named 1953-54 outstanding soil conservationist. Nick Campanella of Stockade, Lowell Gibson of Ottercreek, and Ed M. Adams of Melville earned 1952-53 honors. Goodyear sponsors a yearly contest, with winners earning a sponsored trip to Litchfield Farms, Arizona, after state judging.

Orphanage Toy House Is Dismantled For Shipment
The Children’s Playhouse by architect Lloyd Severance and builder is moved to Twin Bridges Orphanage. The compact 4 by 6 1/2 foot structure with cupola and bell will serve as church school or house, erected in 20 minutes. Senator A Ronald McDonnell toured the site noting improvements while praising the orphanage managers.

Polio Vaccine Clinics Planned for Big Timber May 11
Dr. D. Claiborn state health officer says polio vaccine clinics will be conducted in Big Timber on Wednesday May 11. Dr. Paul R. Ensign informed him the vaccine is expected in the area the weekend of May 7. Town children from first and second grades will receive shots in the morning, with county children in the afternoon.

Square Dance Festival Draws Large Local Crowd

No Winter Trout Fishing In Yellowstone Next Year
Montana fish and game commission enacted changes affecting the Yellowstone river area. The river remains open year round except above the Laurel bridge on Highway 12 where winter fishing is limited to whitefish from December 1, 1955, to February 29, 1956, with trout harvesting prohibited.

Shay Drainage Project Proves Highly Successful
Don Shay and John Rook led a group effort in Sweet Grass county to drain 250 acres of wet land using 1.125 mile ditch and 24 200 yards of excavation. The project lowered the water table by four feet on average, enabling cattle pasture and better crops.

Roland C. Creveling 93 longtime Springdale resident died Saturday at the Caldwell home in Livingston after a period of poor health and a hip fracture last September. Funeral services were held at Lowry Funeral Home with Rev Barker officiating and burial in Mountain View. He was born in Fairmount Springs Penn in 1862, married twice, with four children from his first marriage. He and his second wife Rachel Calver moved to Springdale in 1922 and later homesteaded north of town.

Funeral services were held yesterday for Thomas E. Bowman 83 a former Sweet Grass county rancher who died Saturday at Musselshell Valley Nursing Home Roundup. Born Sept 24 1871 in Tennessee Illinois he homesteaded at Ryegate and later ranched near Harlowton White Sulphur Springs and Big Timber Survivors include five children William Robert Richard Mary Evalyn and Frances plus twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
