Henry Stokke was elected president of the Big Timber Jaycees at a regular meeting. Harold Smith of the local soil conservation service reports snow depth and moisture in Independence slightly below normal. He and snow engineer Phil Farnes traveled by Sno-Bug-a to survey conditions, noting 56 inches of snow and 17.0 inches moisture this year, versus 59 and 18.6 average. They counted 125 deer, 24 elk and one moose during the trip.

Montana pupils numbered 35 459 across elementary and secondary schools with transportation costs totaling 2 954 592 a record year for both enrollment and total expense. Per pupil cost rose from 82 in 1952 53 to 83 in 1955 56. Sweet Grass county spent 20 427 for 267 pupils, averaging 77 per pupil, while Meagher county led with 145 per pupil, up 16 from 53. Other high counties included Sheridan 136 Lewis and Clark 128 Rosebud 124 Sanders 115 Roosevelt 114 and Teton 113. Large type buses and route consolidation helped control costs.

Mrs. Audrey Palmer of Palisade Minnesota who is 85 spent winter with her daughter Mrs Agnes Smith and granddaughter Mrs Bjarne Bjorndal at the Bjordal ranch on Ten Mile and will return to Minnesota. She was named in the centennial edition of Who's Who in Minnesota for distinguished service to community and state without pay. She is mother of nine with 51 grandchildren and 67 great grandchildren, all living save one. Her grandchildren include Mrs. Robert Lindner of Livingston Herman Smith of Grey Cliff and Charles Smith now in Wyoming.

Carl V. Anderson Dies In Billings
Carl V. Anderson 75 of Laurel died at a Billings hospital at 5 15 p m Sunday from a heart ailment. Born in Sweden March 13 1882 he came to East Helena in 1902 and worked for the Northern Pacific Rail road. He retired in 1951 after more than 50 years with the N P as head of the Laurel yards. He married Augusta Swanstrom in 1903 and lived in Grey Cliff Springdale Helena Billings Laurel. Surviving are three daughters two sons two brothers five sisters eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was a member of several lodges and the First Congregational Church. Mrs Anderson died in 1938.
