Republicans May Fight State Secretary Opinion Fight
October 17. The Republican State Central Committee legal advisory group recommends filing a suit in the state supreme court over the appointment of the secretary of state. Albert D. Walton reports that a mandamus will be sought to compel William Jack to rescind telegrams telling counties to ignore E. T. Copenhaver’s nomination for secretary of state. Copenhaver, a Republican, had served under Christensen and lost his deputy post when Jack took over. The ruling cites O Marnn that the deputy’s appointment expired automatically when a new secretary took office.
