Charles A Walker Died Sunday After Long Illness

Charles Alexander Walker longtime resident of this place died Sunday after a prolonged illness. Born March 24, 1860 in St Clair Illinois, he lived in Big Piney for 29 years. He was a sawmill man and builder, husband of Lucy Halloway since 1891, with nine children and surviving siblings. Funeral held Wednesday at the Episcopal church with Rev Walter W. McNeil officiating. interment in Big Piney cemetery.

Monuments To Be Dedicated Next Summer

Cheyenne September 23 The Historical Landmarks Commission of Wyoming plans a summer 1940 tour to dedicate a dozen monuments across the state. Stops include Fo Supply near Ft Bridger for an undedicated monument, names Hilon on the Kemmerer Big Piney highway for an Oregon Trail marker, and Jackson Hole for an 1820s Trapper Trail marker. Other sites include Turpin Meadows for an Indian battle memorial, Thermopolis for a pioneer cabin, Lake De Smet for Father De Smet, Kearney near Sheridan for Portugese Phillips, and Fort Laramie for a marker honoring Phillips historic ride. The tour expects about 15 000 attendees.
