Mountain forage quality extends animal gains through elevation
Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station studies show protein and phosphorous in meadow grasses rise with elevation. Seeded species such as smooth brome and crested wheatgrass maintain higher nutrient content in high mountains (8000–10000 ft) than foothills and valleys, prolonging gains when herds move from low to high elevations.
