Young Sage completes course and joins Pan American staff

Tsewlah Sage, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Sage, finishes a program with Central Radio and Television in Kansas City Missouri and will work for Pan American Airways in New York City. She is the youngest child of the Sages and a 1948 graduate.

Fluoride Treatment Team Treats Wyoming Students

The Wyoming Sodium Fluoride Demonstration Team, aided by U S Public Health Services and the Wyoming State Health Department, applied sodium fluoride to 231 children from Pinedale, Pinedale surrounding communities, and Big Piney in two weeks. The team consisted of a dentist, two dental hygienists, and a clerk who records results and notifies parents of needed dental work.

Mountain forage quality extends animal gains through elevation

Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station studies show protein and phosphorous in meadow grasses rise with elevation. Seeded species such as smooth brome and crested wheatgrass maintain higher nutrient content in high mountains (8000–10000 ft) than foothills and valleys, prolonging gains when herds move from low to high elevations.

Tuesday's general election in Sublette county remained largely Republican with all county ticket winners except one Democratic county commissioner Philip Marincie and Democratic county attorney John S. Mackey. Other GOP wins included Bernie Summers for county clerk Havel Lawes county treasurer Harry E Klein sheriff Ben Rahm county assessor Donata W Jewett county commissioner F W Tanner county coroner Joe Li Budd and Rosalie E Hockett non partisan county superintendent. Statewide results mirrored GOP gains with all Republican nominees winning.

Truman appoints Humphrey to National Science Foundation

President Truman selects Dr G D Humphrey president of the University of Wyoming as a member of the National Essence Foundation a 24 member independent government agency aimed at advancing science health and national defense. Eight members receive six year terms eight four years and eight two years. Humphrey joins seven others with six year terms and the group will promote scientific progress and national welfare. The wider note lists Humphrey’s recent appointments and roles in regional planning higher education irrigation and water resources. Also announced are naval officer commission openings with several specialties listed and a note on the program’s temporary revival.

In 1870 the Carbon County Wyoming superintendent reported one school house, two teachers and seventy four pupils, based on records on file in the county office.

Wyoming Freedom Scroll Signers Top 60,000 Mark

Wyoming’s Freedom Scroll signers have surpassed 60,000, far exceeding Crusade for Freedom committee’s expectations. Dr. G. D. Humphrey, president of the University of Wyoming, anticipates the state will lead the nation in signer percentage. The drive has raised nearly $10,000 for Radio Free Europe as it seeks to lift Europe’s Communist Curtain.

American Legion Auxiliary Plans November Activities

The American Legion Auxiliary met with seven members and voted to send $20 to Cheyenne hospital for Christmas. The Rehabilitation Committee will send three Birthday boxes to Sheridan, the adopted ward. November 30 hosts the annual rum wage sale and bake sale. November 11 is a Legion work day with a pot luck dinner. An Armistice Day program is planned with school cooperation on November 10. A $1000 donation from Mrs. B. M. Fox of Oxden Utah, known as Granny, was received and she was made an honorary member. Refreshments followed adjournment.
