The Comstock Lode at Virginia City was named after Henry Comstock who did not discover it. In June 1859 Peter O Riley and Patrick McLaughlin found a rich lode and agreed to share with Comstock and Manny Penrod after he claimed the spot. The men chose not to pursue court action despite doubts about the claims.
