Senator Oscar Beck Crosses the Great Divide

Obituary notice honors Thomas Oscar Beck of Big Piney a pioneer rancher and longtime public servant who died April 4, 1946 at L C M hospital in Kemmerer after a prolonged illness. Born 1858 in Decatur Iowa he served on the School Board State Live Stock Board and was Sublette County’s first State Senator after Sublette’s organization in 1921. Funeral plans set for April 7 at the Big Piney Community Hall with Tanner Mortuary in charge. The report notes his fraternal affiliations with the Masons Eastern Star and Elks and records surviving family including wife Mary, son Fred, granddaughter Mrs. Marshall Gumey, and a Montana-born brother Clark Beck.

Wyoming War Veterans Record Milk Drinker Victory

The Milk Industry Foundation reports record milk consumption and farm output during wartime. U S milk production neared 4 billion quarts, with total 1944 output at 146 million quarts and Wyoming farms producing 68 000 cows averaging 2149 quarts each. Farm cash income reached 6 912 million dollars while milk and dairy products accounted for over a quarter of annual American food consumption.

University Alumni to Tour State Exhibiting Campus Life

During the week of April 14 four teams of University of Wyoming alumni faculty and students will tour the state to show high schools and alumni associations a colored sound film about campus activities social life and university life. Dr F S Hultz chairman of the relations committee said the initial showing aims to reach many young people about the value of a college education and the university’s role in state higher education. Each tour unit will include three faculty or alumni and one student with tentative staff listed.

Wyoming High School Graduates Among 1945 Attendees

Wyoming high school graduates in 1945 totaled 2,324 with 28 percent, 952, entering college or normal schools, and 46.8 percent of those entering attending the University of Wyoming. Paul Drake Named New County Agricultural Agent

Paul Drake was appointed as the new County Agricultural Agent for Sublette County. He will oversee the office duties during Harold Hurich’s overseas absence and supervise agricultural labor programs as needed. Drake, a Riverton High School graduate and College of Agriculture alumnus, judged at the American Royal and Denver Western Stock Show and served as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps. He aims to advance the 4-H program and assist residents by offering county office contact in the courthouse.

Leora Wardell Weds David Shannon in Pinedale Ceremony

Leora Wardell of Big Piney married David Shannon of Pinedale in a candlelight ceremony at the groom's parents' home on March 23. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Wardell, and the groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shannon, reside in Pine Dale. he recently returned from 22 months overseas service. A reception followed with relatives and friends in attendance.
