Governor Frank L. Houx heads Wyoming Red Cross drive to raise 182000 as Wyoming joins national appeal for a 100000000 war fund. Committees will mobilize counties to organize drives during the Red Cross week starting June 18.
The interior department informs state councils about openings under the 320 acre act. In Wyoming 207000 acres were designated in 12 counties with Johnson 50500 Niobrara 63000 Natrona 27500 and Cook 12000. An additional 192000 acres were leased in May from mineral withdrawals and 6700 acres were eliminated from oil withdrawals. Miss Josephine Osterhout visits the F D Ball home on Cottonwood this week.
Wyoming officials project a broad draft impact. about 3,960 Wyoming men, 18 percent of the state’s registration, will be available for service by December 1. By September 1, roughly 2,200 men, 10 percent, are expected to be called, with 1,452 more called by December 1, leaving 308 eligible. A regimental unit may emerge as the Wyoming regiment in a national mobilization.
Mrs P J Quealy of Kemmerer spoke to the local Red Cross about the nationwide drive for 100 million dollars during June 18 to 25. Lincoln and Uinta counties aim for 21000 with Lincoln county at 14000. A campaign committee led by F A Fear was named to canvass sections and secure contributions while chapter members prepare Red Cross boxes. Miss Nelle Stout returned home after teaching at the Jesse Budd residence.
Mr and Mrs David Van Winkle announce the marriage of their daughter Eunice to William Dill Paxton on June 2 1917 in Golden Colorado. The groom Bill Paxton is a sergeant in the Colorado National Guard and friends extend congratulations.
Frank Chapel came back from a multi location Utah trip last week with a new GMC truck to haul road supplies for the hotel. He resumed charge of the hotel Monday, according to the Examiner for Job Work.
