Sheriff J R McMinn Dies in Kemmerer at 43
Lincoln county loses Sheriff John Richard McMinn at Lincoln County Miners Hospital Kemmerer after a month long battle with pneumonia following a cold. Born near Walla Walla Washington he moved to Fossil 15 years ago serving as constable and deputy sheriff before being elected sheriff in 1916. Funeral services were held at St Patrick s church with interment in Kemmerer City Cemetery attended by Elks I O O F Moose K of P lodges.

Big Piney adopts wartime labor ordinance for able residents
The town council requires all able bodied residents aged eighteen to sixty to engage in useful work for at least five days a week and six hours daily during the present war. Exemptions include students, tourists paying own way, and regular vacation workers. Violations carry fines up to one hundred dollars or up to ninety days hard labor, with enforcement provisions. The ordinance, deemed necessary for public safety amid shortages, takes effect upon passage.

Germans Must Register Under War Proclamation
Under the presidents proclamation dated April 19, 1918 all German females aged 14 and up must register as German alien enemies. In Cheyenne Laramie Sheridan and Rock Springs registration is with the Chief of Police. elsewhere at the Post Office. Registration runs June 17 to June 26 from six a.m. to eight p.m. daily except Sunday.
