First Transcontinental Stamp Gift to Roosevelt Period
W M Myers, president of the Union Pacific, will present President Roosevelt with the first sheet of stamps in a 75th anniversary issue for completing the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. The purchase, made in Omaha May 10 by G F Ashby and Harley Moorhead, was witnessed by Major General Danielson and Roy North. The railroad bought 500000 stamps.

Livestock Market Shows Irregular Week at Los Angeles Yard
At the Los Angeles Union Stock Yards a weak slaughter week followed a Memorial Day halt. Hog movement to midwest markets pressed billing and carried over first hands. cattle prices ranged up to 16.75 per 844 lb load with many steers in the 15.50 area. cows mostly 8 to 13.50. calves, veals, and hogs showed mixed, with hogs steady to 14.95 and sows 9 to 10. Lambs and sheep held firm near 14 to 15 for choice.
