County Agent Reports Dry Conditions and Mixed Harvest in Wyoming
County Agent Harold Hurich notes surface moisture is short in most Wyoming areas with Teton and Washakie counties as exceptions. Harvests begin with grain in Wind River and Big Horn areas, with about half the grain already harvested in northeast, southeast, and other regions. Livestock prospects are fair to good, labor remains tight, and farm machinery is scarce as farmers repair old equipment. Also advises against using DDT as a repellent and provides proper application guidance.

Honey Substitutes for Sugar in Canning Pears Tested
Pears and apples canned with honey were presented as a means to stretch limited sugar supplies. E. J. Thiessen of the Wyoming Experiment Station described honey as a good match for pears and apples, based on wartime sugar substitute studies. Judges found it fair with plums but disliked it with peaches. Honey should replace part of sugar, or be used in half and half mixtures for best results.
