Livestock Market Report From Los Angeles Union Stock Yards
In the Los Angeles Union Stock Yards for the week ending August 7 1944 grass cattle dominated and slaughter cattle moved in Commercial Utility grades amid war time price shifts. Receipts ran lighter than the prior week but heavier year over year with about 24 200 more cattle across twelve yards and 40 000 more than a year ago. Best steers brought up to 16 50 with short feds at 13 50 to 14 40 and grassers around 11 to 13. Cows ranged 11 50 to 12 50 with medium grass cattle 9 to 11 25 and canners 5 50 to 6 75. Grassy heifers sold 10 50 to 12 50 with fed cows weak to steady and bulls commonly 10 75 to 11 50.

Market Report Shows Mixed Livestock Prices This Week
Hog prices remained firm with top butchers at $15.70 for 740 lb and lighter hogs, heavier hogs capped at $15. Sow prices rose early but settled near $12.50 to $13. Feeder pigs $13 to $14.50. Lambs weakened with springer quotes $14 to $14.75. California lambs at $14.35. Ewes 4.00 to 5.25. Medium to good shorn ewes listed 4.00 to 5.25.
