Monmouth School Faces Closure Over Pollution
Monmouth health officer Dr Richard Barron declared the North Monmouth Grade School well polluted and called a 7 p.m. prayer service at Village Baptist Church while he may close the school until the issue is fixed. The pollution may stem from an old cesspool no longer in use, though school board chair Clement Smith said the cesspool has been filled and sealed with gravel and pavement. Bottled water is used for drinking and fountains are off. The school board meets Wednesday to discuss the problem.
