Maine legislature opens third special session for BIW loan plan
In Augusta the 102nd Maine legislature begins a third special session to consider a plan to let the Maine Industrial Building Authority guarantee up to 40 million in industrial expansion loans for Bath Iron Works. If approved, the referendum would appear on the November ballot. BIW seeks the guarantee to finance expansion of its Bath shipyards as it competes for a 100 ship destroyer contract, which could raise BIW payroll and employment substantially if the contract is won.
