Wells School System teachers were welcomed at a Wells Elementary School auditorium reception hosted by the Wells Ogunquit Parent Teacher Association. PTA President Donald Ducharme opened the program and introduced Superintendent Robert W. Johnson who introduced principals and staff. Corsages and boutonnieres were presented to faculty from Ogunquit Village School Wells Elementary School Wells Junior High School and Wells High School. A social hour and refreshments followed under PTA committee direction. The first fall PTA meeting is set for October 7.
The York County Council will meet Saturday at 8 p.m. in Biddeford at the Tighe Beaudoin-Farley Post for a joint session with Cumberland County. Miss Opal Shuffleburg of Kennebunk is entering nursing training at Eastern Maine General School of Nursing in Bangor and has earned several scholarships. John Stahl of Portland Street will depart Thursday for his first year at Hebron Academy.
SANFORD The York County Law Enforcement Association Field Day will be held Saturday at the Sanford Airport. A chicken barbecue will be served at 1 p.m. Horseshoe contest and softball games will be held under the direction of President Roland Langlais of Sanford. In case of rain the event will be moved to the following Saturday, same time and place.
In Dar es Salaam, Tanganyika, a 225,000-member Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanganyika was formed through the merger of seven Lutheran Church bodies. The AP report notes the combined denomination aims to unify operations across the region.
Ocean Park Extension opened its fall season at Porter Hall Temple Avenue with chairman Mrs Frances Johnson presiding The topic Quick Meals was discussed by the extension committee including Miss Isabella McIver Mrs Elizabeth Wilson and others A talk on the survey was given by Adelbert M Jakeman Jr and many members attended the luncheon and meeting
Jakeman has been appointed chairman for this area and asks for volunteers to assist in making a nationwide survey on the needs and desires of older citizens.
Program books The Home We Make were handed out last night by Mrs. Richard Sawtelle to Xi Omicron Exemplar Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at Mrs. Paul Reny s Fairfield Street home in Saco. Standing committees reports were given by Mrs. Reay and Mrs. Donald Macomber.
