Mrs Ada Wood of 188 Lincoln Street Saco is hospitalized as a surgical patient at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston Massachusetts.
The Biddeford Knights of Columbus hosts a district level meeting tonight at K of C Hall on Washington Street with supper at 6 30. The Merton Ira Staples AM VETS Auxiliary meets at 8 tonight at the Post Home on Alfred Street.
IC Hurch Higher Grade Corp Cadets of the Saco Salvation Army meet Friday at 8 30 p m. Universalist Church members hold a special parish meeting Sunday morning at 11 45 to elect delegates for the North east District Unitarian Universalist Association annual meeting in Rockland on Oct 2.
The state Parent-Teachers Association scheduled meetings for October 17 and 18 in Waterville. Attendees from Biddeford were urged to contact Mrs. George Harpootlian for transportation. Dorothy Perreault won the attendance banner at Biddeford Junior High.

Augusta Maine announces praise from President Kennedy for the state's program of entertaining foreign correspondents. White House Secretary Pierre Salinger says Maine is the first to undertake such a program that could be emulated by other states.

Leavitt J Bailey of Saco paid a total of 180 in Cumberland County Superior Court after appealing four motor vehicle charges from Municipal Court where he pleaded innocent. He changed his pleas to guilty before sentencing. Fines ranged 15 for muffler, 30 for driving to endanger, 105 for license suspension, and 30 for false license application representations. lower court fines were each 5 less.
Belle M. Holloway, 67, of Wakefield Massachusetts, was fined ten dollars in Saco Municipal Court after pleading guilty to passing a red light. Saco police filed the complaint and Associate Judge William F. Wilson Jr presided.
A blaze at the Lewiston fairgrounds around 1 am drew helpers from Auburn Lisbon Falls Greene and Sabattus. Flames engulfed two barns as frightened horses fled with crowds and crews aiding in rescues. Gov John H Reed owned a horse that suffered a broken leg during removal to safety.
The newly organized Maine League of Historical Societies and Museums will hold its first meeting with representatives from 60 to 70 societies and museums. Whitney L Brooks of Torrington Connecticut, president of the Connecticut State Historical Society, will be the principal speaker.

Augusta AP report says an informal lawmakers committee favors a complete House reshuffle if reapportionment is needed after a constitutional amendment to fix inequities. The group will use 1961 figures as a basis and plans a draft showing changes by county, with a report due Oct. 16.
Gov. Reed urged a form of milk price control to protect Maine dairy producers from out of state competition. Mrs. Esther Crowley town clerk announced that absentee ballots for the state referendum on November 5 have been received from Augusta and may be applied for at the town hall office. No absentee ballots will be issued for the town referendum on civil service for the police department.
AP reports a planing mill at Hawkes Lumber Co. in Standish was destroyed by fire of undetermined origin on Wednesday night. A firm spokesman estimated the loss around $20,000.
More than 1 000 Saco-Lowell employees will gain a roughly four and one-half percent wage increase starting Monday. About 800 union and non union workers under a two year contract with the Saco-Lowell Automotive Division and the Textile Workers Union of America will see the raise, with benefits including extended pension options and enhanced insurance and sick pay. The pact ratified Sept 10 1962 runs to Sept 15 1964 and covers wage and benefit improvements, paid holidays, death in the family leave, and jury pay. Negotiations were led by Michael Schoonjans Leo Bedard Adrien Petit and Local 406 committee.
Urban Renewal Authority led by Chairman Urbain Goulet hosted federal housing officials and town officers in Old Orchard Beach for a town redevelopment conference.
