Mobutu Plans U.S. Visit Amid Congo Crisis
Leopoldville Congo Col. Joseph Mobutu broke relations with the United Nations Congo Command and said he would travel to the United States to seek support for his faltering regime. He accused U N Congo chief Rajeshwar Dayal of bias and claimed the U N operation backs Patrice Lumumba. Mobutu spoke from Binza military zone as his grip on power weakened and pledged to do all to prevent his regime from collapsing.

Fire kills man in Maine cottage blaze
In North Windham Maine a cottage on Petting Pond burned killing an estimated 25 year old Richard N Thurlow accountant with Ernst and Ernst of Portland and badly burning 27 year old Francis J Fixaris Jr popular director for radio station JAB in Westbrook. Neighbors Robert Burgess and Roland Moore helped pull Fixaris from the porch as firefighters battled the flames. Both men had shared the cottage since early summer and automobiles were parked outside.

AT&T seeks first commercial space satellite
