Lord Home Named Britain Prime Minister In 1963
Lord Home, aged 60, becomes Britain's prime minister succeeding Harold Macmillan. A lean Scottish aristocrat, he rose from obscurity to foreign secretary in three years, earning respect for clarity and independence though health risks and limited front‑line political exposure remain concerns. He sides with firm Russia policy and retains ties with Deputy PM Butler, a close ally. He is married with four children and enjoys shooting and fishing.
