Satellites Race Through Space In Secrecy Mission
Two sentry satellites launched from Cape Canaveral on a secrecy cloaked mission to test satellite based detectors for nuclear explosions up to 200 million miles away. The code named Vela Hotel aims to chart space radiation and spot sudden energy surges from distant blasts as the craft reach 57 000 mile high orbits. Officials withheld full results pending further maneuvers, with news blackout cited though sources hinted at concerns about Soviet trust under the test ban. The Atlas Agena booster lifted the pair at 9 32 p m Wednesday, and the satellites now drift about 20 miles apart en route to their planned circular 57 000 mile orbits.

Prospects Dim For Any Drought Relief
The Weather Bureau says little rain is expected for five days and dry conditions continue through Nov 15 with below normal precipitation in the Eastern U S except the Southeast. Central areas may see above average rainfall while fires burn across the Northeast and Midwest. Water shortages grow and forests shut in multiple states as hunters and campers are warned. Maine imposes a ban on open fires and smoking as drought worsens.
