Explosion at Saigon airport injures 22

A terrorist bomb exploded in a restaurant at Saigon airport wounding 18 Americans and at least four Vietnamese. Union To Seek Voluntary Wage Increase At Pepperell

Washington AP reports unions plan a meeting with Pepperell Manufacturing and Local 305 to request a voluntary five percent wage increase. The action follows two 5 percent raises for southern workers, while the contract runs to April 1966 with a re-opening clause. Leaders highlight subsidies to cotton textiles and wage gaps versus other industries. Representatives from Local 305 and national TWUA Cotton and Lewiston groups will attend.

Reed certifies Tupper election in Maine's 1st District

Gov. Reed issued a certificate of election to U. S. Rep. Stanley R. Tupper after the secretary of state tabulated results showing Tupper with 95,398 votes to Kenneth Curtis's 95,195. Curtis sought a recount delay, arguing potential errors. Reed stated the certificate does not preclude Curtis's recount request.

Meserve Endorsed In Ward 4 By Republican Committee

Ralph H. Meserve was unanimously endorsed as aldermanic candidate by the Ward 4 Republican Committee in Saco. Meserve, a long-time Ward 4 resident and Central Maine Power Co. coordinator, was joined by endorsements for C. Russell Herrmann as warden and Mrs. Charles Pendleton as ward clerk. The gathering at Twomey’s home also named Raymond Carter ward chairman and elected delegates to the City Committee.

Women Clerks Affected By Gas In County Jail Incident

Tear gas used to quiet two prisoners in the Androscoggin County jail Tuesday afternoon seeped out into the main floor of the county building and affected women clerks. The gas did not reach the second floor where the superior court was in session.
