Webber Board Backs New Site for Hospital Expansion

The Webber Hospital Association board voted 16 to 6 with one abstention to proceed with a new Alfred Road facility rather than expand the Elm Street site. The decision follows an earlier expansion study that cited higher costs and zoning risks on the present site, while a new site would cut operating costs by at least six percent and may lower patient day costs despite higher total project costs. A public hearing on the 150 bed project is set for November 18 at Biddeford High School as SMCHA reviews need, feasibility, and cost containment before state and federal approvals.
