Veterans Day Observance Delays City Services in Biddeford Saco

The two cities close municipal offices and most businesses on Wednesday for Veterans Day. Post offices run holiday hours with lobby access but no mail delivery. Biddeford lobby 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saco same hours. The parade begins at 10 a.m. in Saco then moves to Biddeford with a theater program. Biddeford High School travels to Sanford for a Cobb Stadium clash.

Saco Democrats nominate Reny for mayor in 1948 race

Paul E. Reny 47 of 46 Fairfield Street won unanimous endorsement as the Democratic candidate for mayor by the Saco Democratic City Committee. He is police and fire commissioner, a Civil Defense radiological officer, and past president of the York County Firemen’s Association. Theodore Poirier announced his candidacy for mayor with a Republican caucus set for November 18.

All Nation Summit Session Is Asked

Chest Drive Nears Its Goal in Community Chest Drive

The Biddeford Saco Community Chest report shows 75 percent of its $33,000 goal raised. Since last week, pledges total $3,384.95 with gifts from industry $1,470.45 business $903.50 public $537 and special gifts $474, bringing the to date amount to $25,363.16. Next report is set for November 16 at 11 a.m. at the Community Chest office, per secretary M Cartmill.
