Thornton inaugurates new language lab during National Education Week
Thornton academy opens an eight thousand dollar language laboratory, the region’s only such facility in Maine New Hampshire and Vermont. The 20 booths with dual track tape systems allow teacher student interaction with a central control room. Initial courses focus on speaking and listening to French and Spanish, with future plans for more languages. A pilot freshman class of 27 will study French through senior year, led by instructors Miss Lillian Cyr and Miss Ada Bonney.

Search Continues For Pilot And Wreckage Of Jet Planes
In western Maine a missing Air Force pilot and the wreckage from a Tuesday night collision of an F102 Delta Dagger and a T 33 trainer are being sought. Lt Gary N Sugar 24 of Seattle was presumed dead after his parachute was found partially open in a tree with harness fragments missing. Lt Alfred L Williams 26 of Manchester Conn was recovered on Bigelow Mountain still in his parachute and appears to have died from oxygen loss during the descent.
