Reny Seeks Second Term in Saco With Endorsements

Mayor Paul E. Reny of Saco announced definite programs for city benefit if reelected. He received unanimous backing from the Democratic City Committee and Democratic Social Club. Charles Mistos also won endorsement for the Superintending School Committee to unseat Chairman Lowell Innes.

U S Cavalry Stands Off Vietnamese Forces Near Cambodia

U S 1st Division air cavalry ambushed a North Vietnamese regular column 12 miles south of Duc Co and 18 miles west of Plei Me. The clash included four counter attacks, one helicopter downed, and at least 20 enemy fatalities. An American helicopter crew was safe. U S B52s pounded a storage area near Saigon. Newswoman Dickey Chapelle killed by a mine near Da Nang. Mekong Delta clashes yielded moderate ranger casualties and 15 guerrilla deaths near Can Tho. No government losses reported.

Johnson Plans National Farm Study After Omnibus Bill

President Johnson announced a broad study of federal farm programs after signing a four year agriculture bill with a 4 billion dollar price tag for 1966. He created a National Advisory Commission on Food and Fiber to report within 18 months and a food and fiber committee led by Secretary Freeman.

Princess Margaret's US trip delayed by false alarms

Princess Margaret's departure to the United States was delayed 17 minutes after anonymous calls claimed strychnine in the London airport water. A plane search found nothing suspicious and security crews refilled water tanks while guards watched the Royal party led by Lord Snowdon with aides.

Strong Resident Dies Of Burns At Mill Fire

Richard M. Kingsley aged 63 of Strong died from burns sustained in a wood turning mill fire last week. He passed away Wednesday at a Portland hospital after being hospitalized for the blaze that injured four workers, with Kingsley the most seriously hurt.

Firefighters battled a woods fire off Westmore Avenue as high winds fanned the flames. At the same time a separate house fire at 12 Story home on Old Pool Road damaged the Cote residence.

Winds Drive Fire Threat Across Coastal New England

Gusty winds spread brush and forest fires across Rhode Island to southern Maine and New Hampshire last weekend and were expected to raise fire risk again. No rain was forecast for two to three days as winds reach 50 mph with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. A warehouse fire at Builders Specialty Lumber Co in Somerville caused injuries and forced evacuations as smoke blanketed nearby homes.
