Man Hangs Self in Lewiston Jail
John D. Sawyer, 28, of Yarmouth died yesterday in Lewiston city jail after an intoxication arrest. An Androscoggin County medical examiner said Sawyer hanged himself while in custody. Police reported he had been arrested about an hour earlier on the intoxication charge.

Four Hurt In Biddeford Vehicle Crash At Main And Bradbury
Four people including three small children escaped serious injury after a crash in Biddeford at Main and Bradbury streets this morning. A Biddeford Saco Water truck, a 1956 Dodge Express, collided with a 1951 Studebaker driven by Ralph Graffam, 28, of East Waterboro. The truck wedged onto a sidewalk and the car ricocheted between two parking meters, nearly hitting a retaining wall. The occupants, including Mr Graffam’s sister-in-law Yvonne Graffam and his three children, were taken to Webber Hospital for X rays and evaluations. all were later released. Police detained the driver and a car occupant for court appearance Tuesday.
