An explosion at the Indianapolis Coliseum during a Holiday on Ice finale killed 62 and injured 85, with flames and falling concrete sections. Authorities blamed a leaking liquefied petroleum gas tank used to heat popcorn poppers, as the disaster overwhelmed hospitals and morgues.
A massive explosion in Marietta Georgia at the town square drug store during Halloween festivities killed seven people and injured twenty five, eight seriously. Authorities believe a natural gas leak in the basement triggered the blast. Firefighters and civil defense workers labored overnight to recover victims as the front of the two story building showed signs of collapse.
