Pachios told the board that clients feared dismissal would force starting from scratch. Peters, after receiving the board's dismissal order, said the action wasn't as bad and would not hurt NEECO in future negotiations. Board member Jean Childs stressed the vote was not on the refinery's merits and the board is not opposed to the project.

Maine Discrimination Bill Proposes Broad Repeals
Augusta-Saco attorney Judy Potter and UMaine law professor helped draft a bill to repeal or amend old laws that discriminate by sex. After a public hearing, the Judiciary Committee eyed further study this summer with no vote. The omnibus measure would treat men and women equally in custody, harassment, and access rules, and would end bans such as women entering all male taverns.

About a dozen residents met to seek criminal and civil action against four town councilors and Acting Town Manager Jerome Plante.
