Kennebunk Officials Review School Needs and Expansion
The Kennebunk Superintending School Committee met for an all day session with Supt. John S Seekins Jr to discuss space needs for next September and beyond. Enrolment has risen from 1002 in 1953 to 1273 last fall, prompting proposals for Park Street and junior high additions, an all purpose room, a separate high school shop building and more home economics space, plus revised tuition formulas and new bus purchases.

The Kennebunk Planning board met with about 40 citizens at Lower Town hall to review maps showing land use traffic and utilities. John Atwood outlined a draft master plan urging shopping center growth along the Route 9 turnpike corridor and concentrated housing between Route 9 and the turnpike with West Kennebunk expansion. Giant Antenna Basis For Speculation
In Andover Maine rumors swirled about a space station yet AT&T announced plans for the world’s largest antenna for telephone satellite communication atop a hill near the village. The $7 million test facility will use a 177 by 94 foot horn antenna to receive and transmit signals via orbiting satellites, with a large radome to protect equipment and air locks for maintenance. The site’s isolation and surrounding mountains minimize interference as surveys proceed.
