Jaworski To Press For Tapes In Watergate Clash

Sanford Tower Links Biddeford To Cable TV Faster

Biddeford City Council approved using York Cable’s Sanford tower to transmit signals rather than building a Biddeford antenna. The switch to microwave transmission could allow service this fall with better reception, meeting a fall hockey game deadline. The council also amended a traffic safety grant application, voting down the full grant but approving the amended version for funds toward a patrol car and equipment, with no new officer added. Icelandic Volcano Erupts Near Keflavik and Heimaey

An AP report from Reykjavik says a U.S. military plane observed a massive seabed eruption off Iceland, 46 miles southwest of Keflavik, with steam and lava shooting into the sea. The eruption lies about 70 miles from Heimaey in the Westman Islands, site of the January 23 1973 eruption that destroyed a third of that town.

Cyclists Beat Train Race From McHenry To Lake Geneva

Eight cyclists challenged a commuter train over 21 miles from McHenry Illinois to Lake Geneva Wisconsin and won by ten minutes in a rain drenched event. Led by Dave Ludtke the seven finishers rode an hour 25 minutes while one cyclist got lost. The train trip now takes two hours 43 minutes due to slow diesel service amid poor track conditions. Ludtke notes an 1883 timetable showing wood burning trains cut the trip by about half an hour.

Saco Row Over Ferry Lane Public Access Dispute

Fred Pipinias seeks city action to reopen Ferry Lane to public use amid a dispute over a privately held road to the Saco River. Abutting landowners Paradis and Hamilton hold deeds to the road sections, with the street described as a paper street not formally accepted by the city. Paradis says ownership runs to center, easements exist for an accepted street, and fishermen used the path. no trespassing signs were erected due to hazards from a holey dock. Pipinias says the road has long been used and questions adverse possession as a settlement route. He warns he may act if the city does not intervene.
