Water Plant Sites Scanned narrowing choices

Interior Department has narrowed to 13 cities for an Atlantic Ocean salt water conversion plant using a freezing process. Final site selection rests with Secretary Fred Seaton. Remaining contenders include Gloucester and Dartmouth Massachusetts and Portsmouth New Hampshire. The plant would cost about 1.5 million dollars and produce 250000 gallons of fresh water daily.

Khrushchev Says Captured U.S. Pilot May Be Tried as Spy

Khrushchev told the Supreme Soviet that Francis Powers the U.S. pilot shot down while on a spy mission across the Soviet Union is alive and may be tried. He cited diaries of alleged weather survey work and said the American statements were fabrications. The remarks heightened tensions as Washington sought more details before responding ahead of the May 16 Paris summit.

Biddeford Boy Chosen for Lourdes Pilgrimage Flight

Norman Cantara of Biddeford named by Cardinal Cushing to join the 1960 American Children's Pilgrimage to Lourdes. He is among 25 selected at St. Coletta School and will travel from Boston via Pan American Airlines with sponsors Mr and Mrs Winslow of Weymouth. The trip includes Ireland and returns to Boston before final homecoming.

Eisenhower to Resume Underground Nuclear Tests

President Eisenhower announced the United States will resume underground nuclear tests, possibly by year end, using non weapon devices. Youth Indicted for Shooting Trooper and 17 Other Indictments

York County Grand Jury returns ten public indictments and four secret ones. Henry Martell of Limerick faces murder charges alongside 17 other indictments. Adelbert Littlefield Jr of Belfast is indicted for assault to kill Trooper Hall and larceny of a $1,000 car. Elmer Ellsworth of Harrison charged with uttering forged instruments. William Stanton of Saco, Roger Crepeau of Biddeford, Franklin Marshall of Kittery, and Raymond Marshall Sr of Hollis face breaking and entering plans. Theodore Webber of Sanford and Charles Task Sr of Limerick each face multiple indictments including indecent liberties.
